  • At Smith Mountain Lake, Franklin County currently limits STRs largely to agricultural zoning by SUP — wrong zone = can't legally rent short-term.
  • Lake Anna, Lake Murray, and SML require septic inspections, registration fees, and management plans for STRs.
  • Lake Murray sits at the very edge of your 4.5-hr limit (~4h20). Closer communities may qualify; farther shores may not.
